KATHMANDU, MAY 18 — Meetings of both Houses of the Federal Parliament are set to take place today, with lawmakers preparing to hold discussions on important parliamentary and budget-related agendas for the upcoming fiscal year.
According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, the meeting of the House of Representatives will begin at 11:00 am, while the National Assembly meeting is scheduled for 1:15 pm later in the afternoon.
During the House of Representatives session, Chairperson of the Draft Committee Ganesh Parajuli is expected to present a proposal seeking deliberation on the “Report of the House of Representatives Regulations Draft Committee, 2083.” The proposal is considered significant for improving parliamentary procedures and strengthening the legislative framework of the lower house.
The House meeting will also formally begin discussions on the principles and priorities of the Appropriation Bill for the fiscal year 2083/84, excluding tax-related proposals. Lawmakers are expected to express their views on the government’s policy direction, development priorities, public expenditure plans, and overall economic strategy for the upcoming fiscal year.
Similarly, the National Assembly is also scheduled to commence discussions on the principles and priorities of the Appropriation Bill for the next fiscal year, excluding tax provisions. Members of the upper house are expected to debate key national issues, budget priorities, and the government’s proposed development agenda.
The discussions in both Houses are being viewed as an important part of the annual budget preparation process, as parliamentarians from both ruling and opposition parties will have the opportunity to provide recommendations and raise concerns regarding national policies and planned expenditures.
The government is expected to unveil the full national budget for fiscal year 2083/84 in the coming weeks, and the ongoing parliamentary discussions are likely to help shape the final budget framework and policy priorities.
